Music is the tie that binds us as people. Plus it also gave me something to base an update on for a change besides work and the holidays.

Periods of time or even different epsiodes usually have a song, band or a whole cd as a way to keep memories straight and good periods tucked into my memory. I also have been known to make entire IPod playlists around a single epsiode (I did this several times during series 2, had to move the playlist for Exit Wounds off the IPod and onto the laptop after crying too many times). So I pulled up some playlists and will try and explain what that song is to me (I'll also add in later on some from the COE and Miracle Day playlists).

"Chelsea Dagger" The Fratellis: This to me became my song for "Countrycide" after the fact. After buying the cd for Costello Music off ITunes and hearing this song I realized on some level this song was Gwen in a nutshell. Even now I'm not really sure why the song made sense to me but sometimes that just happenes with a song(plus try explainging the little yell part to people). Plus you have to admit, the opening would make a killer rugby yell.

"Miss Murder" AFI: This came from the playlist for "Adrift" and in a way the song was fitting how Gwen felt after seeing what she saw. Its not because of the lyrics but its more in tune with the guitars and drums. Sometimes that lets a song make more sense than anything else.

"Shake It" Metro Station: My current ringtone and another one of those songs that can make me smile after a rough day or just when I need a little boost of something. Plus it is kinda fun to see reactions when the tone plays ;)

"Shadow Of A Day" Linkin Park: From the "Exit Wounds" playlist and I think Gwen would have had this on her IPod as a way to remind herself there is something to fight for even after so much darkness and pain.

"Home" Michael Buble: This would be Gwen's song when it comes to Rhys.

"Cheers Darlin" Damien Rice: When I ran off to Glasgow for a book binge holiday post COE this cd seemed to stay on repeat and this song has become my link to a period of time I just needed at the time.

"New Pollution" Beck: I blame Marsters for this one ;) He played this for me while he guested and within a couple of hours I had gotten the cd and now its sort of become my all purpose mood lifter song. Plus when nobody is around I will dance around the flat to this (and I sometimes don't crash into anything!).

"E.T." Katy Perry: Part of a new playlist from the last few months, the LA period of time.

"Torch Song" AFI: Another one from the LA period playlist, I picked up the cd on a whim and was quickly hooked.

"Down the Rabbit Hole" Adam Lambert: One more for the LA period, he was a more recent discovery and this song especially stayed trapped in my brain after downloading the live cd. No meaning for this one, I just like it.

"The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen" Bob Rivers: No reason, I just have to think someone has actually switched the signs as a prank.

As for now I smell an outing to pick up train tickets for a weekend in London along with chips and some much needed supplies.

To close for the moment: share music with me? My taste runs the map and will try anything once!

[mood | contemplative]

I feel guilty.

For some reason part of me is screaming I should not feel this way, I did not know her the way others in the verse have. But I have my memories: the crossover being huge among them. Gareth and I were still reeling from "Exit Wounds" along with Burn and Naoko being killed off. So when we were not needed on set we were camped on the Hub's sofa playing cards. During filming people would sit in for a hand or two when not needed on set. But when Elisabeth took over a hand for Catherine she also made a point of simply seeing how we were holding up given everything. That proved her status as mum of the Who verse in spades to name one moment.

But beyond the crossover I have the stories others have shared with me: mostly my costars and friends like David. Over the last few days those stories have been shared from emails to video chats. At the same time when news broke it was David (among so many) who was able to reach John before we found out via other means. As for me it was other women in the verse who pressed speed dial (Naoko was the one that got the news to me along with Freema since that is pure verse, news spreads fast even with a few thousand miles in the way).

There is also a band of teens several of us are just as worried about: the kids of the verse over at SJA (Sarah Jane Adventures). So in the midst of darkness all the branches of the Who verse tree are rallying around each other.

But for now since filming is shut down (and John being away in Palm Springs) I'll go find the dvd of the crossover along with my paper journal and remember her, the woman who really was the cast mum of the Doctor Who verse and the 3 shows that have become a family.

As for the icon its my Torchwood family, the orignal 5. Family of the emotional kind is something I've been able to hang onto even being on the other side of the world.

The boys are on the way back to Wales which only means one thing: press is looming for Children of Earth. But I also can't wait since over the time we have been apaprt we have gained plenty of new stories to be shared from tales of the road (Gareth) to me braving a Supernatural con. At the same time its also a reunion since in a way we have moved from costars to brothers and sister and yes I'm working on getting both of them over here! Plus if all goes to plan this reunion will be more than the 3 of us (Naoko is coming to visit and Burn is booking train tickets).

I'll save the tale of braving Supernatural for an upcoming entry but that alone was worth the trip! Braving the train from Cardiff to Birmingham alone is going to be worth the price of the entry but the best part for me was meeting Jensen offically and seeing Jared again (first time was NYCC). So guys, it was a blast braving the other side of our shared world :)

I also made a trip into London for a much looked forward to girls only lunch with Naoko plus seeing John and his partner and in the process got to spend some time with Emma (tea was great Emma! I also left a small suprise for you (stuffed dino) and I want to make you my unoffical little sister!).

I would add in my bit about Prop 8 but I won't. At least here in England love is seen as just that, love. And to be honest its a little more personal for me because of John and his partner, they are legal over here and it boils me that if they tried back in the states they would not be able to.

But once press wraps up I will need something to look foward to so anyone coming my way? Anything within a few hours train is fair game along with London!
